Great snorkeling place in Riviera Maya: Yal Ku Lagoon in Akumal

If you are into snorkeling tours during your vacations in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya and Tulum, then we have the right place for you. Akumal offers many different amazing spots for you to do this. Today, we would like to tell you a little bit about the Yal Ku Lagoon, which is quite different from other snorkeling lagoons in Akumal. When you enter this ecological paradise the first thing you'll notice is the art work. Many areas in the jungle are dotted with both traditional and contemporary statues.

Some pieces of art are in the jungle setting while other pieces are out on small islands. You can only imagine how amazing this combination is in the Caribbean scenario. Remarkably, it is quite an unknown place and with few people around.

There is no beach, nor are there any changing rooms. A small restroom is the only amenity. The Yal Ku Lagoon in Akumal has both fresh & salt water that comes from underground springs as well as the Caribbean Sea, allowing for a unique marine environment.

Great combination of art and Caribbean Sea!
The Yal Ku Lagoon is great for snorkeling, and you'll be delighted to see hundreds of colorful fish. Incredible species can be observed in depth and with little or no waves at all. Also, many rock formations in the lagoon create a fascinating underwater spectacle. What a great tour during your vacations in Cancun and Riviera Maya!

This is a special ecosystem for the exotic marine creatures which you can perfectly see while snorkeling. Or just float on the surface or dive underwater to see them. Several species of tropical fish spend some time here before they reach the proper size and maturity.

The Yal Ku Lagoon offers you the possibility to admire starfish and urchins, damselfish, sergeant majors, hamlets, parrotfish, blue tangs and queen triggerfish, among other Caribbean species.

We recommend you visit the Yal ku Lagoon in the morning and try not to go on weekends since there are more visitors. However, it is always an amazing place to explore near holiday destinations such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
